Sweet Babushka Fridge Magnet

Have you ever seen one of those wood figurines that opens up, only to find another one on the inside that also opens up, revealing yet another one, and it goes on until you have 5,7 or sometimes 9 pieces. These dolls are known as nesting dolls, babuszka dolls, babushka dolls or matryoshka dolls. The tradition of making these dolls stems from Eastern and Central Europe and was mostly adopted by Russia and Poland. They represent motherhood and fertility. The artists would paint costumes on the dolls. Regional costumes were a favorite.

Although this nesting doll is not made of wood, and is not made by hand, it does represent a typical Babushka. It's made of PVC plastic, but it has such fine details, we guarantee you've never seen one like this before. I was truly impressed by this magnet. You always see magnets at register checkouts, at the airport, or in bookstores. But I don't think I've ever seen a magnet this nice. View the Babushka magnet.

Beg to differ. Matryoshka is a Russian doll and has nothing to do with Poland.

i know what it means, but still, matryoshka is a Russian doll, not Polish, that's all I meant. I think that an example of Polish folk art would be more fitting on a site dedicated to Poland. Why not show something from Kaszuby or Tatra mountains? Or Pisanki eggs? There is so many beautiful things typical for Poland, that represent its culture, rather then culture of its problematic eastern neighbour. Go Poland! :)
